Influenced by Nordic housing traditions, with builds first undertaken in Denmark in the 1960s, urban cohousing has gained popularity as a model for sustainable living across Europe, North America and Australia.

Cohousing communities are diverse in their design, management and governance but all communities feature a collection of separate homes built around shared living spaces that allow for privacy whilst fostering a sense of community and support.
